Court appointments in Philadelphia criminal cases

May a City employee accept Court appointment in criminal cases prosecuted by the District Attorney in Philadelphia’s Municipal Court or Court of Common Pleas?

No. For the purposes of the Ethics Code, criminal prosecutions brought by the District Attorney in Philadelphia’s Municipal Court or Court of Common Pleas are "transactions involving the City." As such, Code Section 20-602(1)(a) prohibits employee from representing defendants in these cases.
